"By observing the details in everyday surroundings, I find a wealth of ideas: from the smallest of sweet peas on my garden trellis to the rhythm of color across the Arizona landscapes. I feel very blessed to be able share myself with others through my art." Catherine Sickafoose
Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Catherine Sickafoose has lived most of her adult life in Arizona. Art has been an important part of her life ever since her mother presented her with a gift of oil paints for her 10th birthday. But raising a family, with a career as a Registered Nurse, took precedence until one of those defining moments when the paint brushes called her back to the studio. Transparent watercolors captured Catherine's heart when she decided to pursue her dream of becoming an artist.
Capturing the colors of nature in both sunshine and shadows, Catherine Sickafoose pulls the viewer into the soul of the painting, blending negative brushwork - using the white of the paper rather than white paint - with glazed transparent watercolors for vibrant representations of landscapes, florals and still life paintings in light and shadow. Painting from her own photographs or still life compositions, Catherine works in her Flagstaff , Arizona studio.
